It’s July, and 2019 has flown past so fast. Feel the need to hit pause? Slow down? Recalibrate? A wellness weekend at Owl and the Pussycat Hotel is the ideal way to recenter and revive your mind, body and soul. Infuse the spirit of south Sri Lanka into your being with an OTP escape for your wellbeing.
Start the day with yoga
There’s nothing more uplifting than starting your day with our curated yoga sessions. Lead by an experienced local instructor, stretch your mind, body and spirit as you listen to the waves lapping the shore. Your mind is calmed by the aqua blues and sea green of the Indian Ocean, a gentle breeze and warm sunshine that touch your skin. It’s the perfect way to begin your day.
Nutritiously delicious breakfast
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. We agree. That’s why a sumptuous and healthy breakfast is included for all stays at OTP. Fresh fruit full of vitamins and nutrients is a staple at the breakfast table. Coconut pancakes are full of healthy fats. Tender coconut water rehydrates you after your deep sleep. Delicious hoppers and eggs to order balance out the meal. Even your Ceylon tea is full of antioxidants and important amino acids.
Sun-soaked and Pool Cool
The Sri Lankan sun on the south coast is soothing – not too hot and not too bright, but just right. Soaking in those rays is the best way to stock up on natural Vitamin D. Sweat out those toxins. Then cool yourself off with a delightful dip in our pool. Pump up your heart rate with a few quick laps or simply float on the surface. Feel more adventurous? During the winter months, the Indian Ocean is ideal for a salt water dip. The sun, salt, sand and surf will leave your skin glowing and your body well primed.
Work out that stress
Just because you’re on holiday doesn’t mean that you need to be inactive, if you don’t want to be. Our gym is well equipped for a full workout. Go for a run on the treadmill or if you prefer, just step out onto the sandy beaches that are within a stone’s throw of OTP – the choice is yours.
Massage & Meditate
Close your eyes and feel the soothing hands of your experienced local therapist knead away the stress and unknot your muscles. A fragrant blend of healing herbs, locally grown on plantations close by, are excellent ingredients for a scrub, a wrap or an herbal oil massage. Unwind and let go as your therapist expertly stretches and relaxes your body, beneath the gentle warmth of the Sri Lankan sun.
Close your eyes and drift away into blissful relaxation.
After your massage, meditate for a little while in our tropical garden, as the oils soak into your skin. The sea breeze, the sound of the waves, and the sunshine will leave you feeling utterly cantered.
Backroads Bicycling
Another great way to explore the south coast and get a little exercise in is a guided bike ride through the paddy fields and along the backroads of the south coast. Pedal your way through gorgeous nature, small hamlets, across coconut groves and rice fields.
Spiritual Solace
If you want to immerse yourself in Sri Lanka’s spirituality, there are a number of beautiful places of worship near at hand. Temples, shrines, churches, mosques and stupas rub shoulders with one another in peaceful harmony all along the south coast.
Healthy Eating
At OTP, we believe that what you eat is who you are – and that’s why we make it a point to cater to each individual guest’s dietary requirements and preferences. Whether you prefer vegan, vegetarian or pescatarian, lactose-intolerant or gluten-free, keto or low-carb, we’re here to help you nourish your body with food that’s healthy, tasty and above all, fresh. We proactively use healthy ingredients such as virgin coconut oil for cooking, healing herbs and spices like gotukolla and cinnamon, ocean-fresh fish that is low in fat, lean cuts of meat, and nutrient dense produce – some of which is only found indigenously in Sri Lanka.
A Cup of Tea
Indulge in a cup of Ceylon tea in the Edward Lear Drawing Room at OTP. There’s nothing more relaxing than sipping on an evening cuppa. There’s a good reason for this. Tea is high in natural theanine, an essential amino acid that helps your brain to relax and decompress. It helps to increase focus and calms your mind so that you sleep better. If you like, take a delightful excursion to the tea gardens and tea factory in nearby Koggala to discover more about tea and it’s healing benefits.
Deep Sleep
Our suites are especially designed to have high ceilings, a sense of openness, natural light, and cross-ventilation. Sumptuous beds with well sprung mattresses help you sleep that much better. Combined with the relaxing ambience, excellent cuisine, and natural beauty of south Sri Lanka, you’ll close your eyes and fall asleep like a baby, to have the sweetest dreams.
